How do you plan to function given the looming financial constraints on the criminal justice system?
The financial constraints will hit the entire system, not just the criminal side. Given the capabilities of computer processors, computer research and other tools available to judges and lawyers alike, it is much easier to function with less than ever before. In terms of being able to effectively deal with my case load, write opinions and orders and otherwise perform the day-to-day work or a judge, I believe I will be able to function appropriately. The larger issue will be with running the Courthouse, conducting trials, especially jury trials and trying to ensure the safety of the public without adding to the problems already facing our prisons. I will encourage alternative dispute resolution, which will help resolve cases outside the Court. I will develop and foster relationships and programs with outside public and private agencies to find alternatives to prison sentences. I will be an effective gatekeeper and dismiss or otherwise dispose of cases that lack merit before they burden
