How Do You Plan An Indoor Girl Scout Winter Games?
Our Girl and Cub Scouts have activities all the time indoors here in NY!
We held a Top of the Mountain ‘snowball’ fight with rolled up socks.
Snowflakes are awesome awards. Try making them with 6-8 crafts sticks glued together in a star pattern. Spread a bit of glue and add sparkly things such as sequins and glitter.
Gather sturdy vines, branches, and twigs. Soak them in water for days. Have older Scouts bend them and wrap rope around them to make snow shoes. This teaches knot tying as well!
Have ‘snow shoe’ races
Ice Fishing is fun~~have a large bucket covered in pieces of styrofoam ‘ice’ with just enough room for a "fishing pole" (one of those grabbing tools) to get down there and catch/grab a simple prize.
Snow Sled races are fun, too. Attach ropes to the waists of children and have them be the fastest pulling a child on a snow sled across the floor/carpet and finish line!
Have Fun!!
It is very cold in Wisconsin and our Girl Scout troop wanted to host a winter games but hold it inside so we wouldn’t freeze. This event is very good for multiple troops as well as multi-level troops within the same school(s). This works well in a climate that doesn’t get much or any snow. You can experience the fun of winter inside even if there is no snow outside. Cadettes and Seniors can lead the activity to earn part of their Sports for Life Interest Project Award, Juniors can earn their Frosty Fun Badge, Brownies can earn their Sports and Games Try-It and Daisies can earn their Courageous and Strong Petal. The four games include “Pin the snowflake on the pine tree”, “Winter Relay Race”, “Make a Snowman”, and “It’s Snowing Balloons” Choose a date, time, and place. If using a community place like a gymnasium, fill out the appropriate paperwork like a building request form. Make sure to find out if there is a cost involved in using the facility.
