How Do You Plan An Earth Day Classroom Activity?
Help your students learn about and celebrate Earth Day, traditionally commemorated on April 22. Plan a variety of events the week before and a fun craft for the actual day so the kids will be entertained while discovering ways to safeguard the environment. Explain the concept of Earth Day and introduce your class to basic eco-friendly principles through picture books and coloring pages that you can download free from the Internet. (See Resources) Teach students about recycling by placing three colorful bins near the regular classroom trashcan. Use a pen to label the containers and instruct the kids to place paper in one, cans and foil in another and glass products in the third. Show them how to rinse each item thoroughly before placing it in the proper bin. Reinforce the meaning of Earth Day and help the kids empathize with the plight of the planet by having them write first-person essays from the Earth’s point of view. For example, ask them to tell other kids what they can do to help
