Here are some tips on how to plan an affordable wedding during a recession. Make a list of friends/family with skills. Do you have a sister who sews? Does your mother make tasty jam? This is your “Wedding Contacts List” or people you may decide to enlist for help with your wedding. Determine your actual budget. Yes, we would all like to spend $500,000 on a dream wedding, but lets be realistic. Start with what you have on hand – cash, including family contributions – and add to it any amount of debt you are willing to incur (although this is not recommended).
