How Do You Plan A Reading Project For EFL/ESL?
Courses in English as a foreign language (EFL) or English as a second language (ESL) will often devote a significant amount of time to the study of literature. Reading is an excellent way for students to improve their analytical skills, vocabulary and knowledge of grammar and spelling. Help students who are learning English to stay on track and to get the most out of a reading project by planning in advance the guiding questions and activities that will test students’ comprehension. Divide the book into sections and decide by which date each section must be read. Transfer this information onto a computerized or handwritten schedule. Prepare comprehension questions for each section of the book. Each section should have its own sheet of questions and a due date indicated at the top of the sheet. Make use of various question formats, such as true-false, fill in the blank or short answer. If the students’ writing level is intermediate or advanced, you may also ask them to provide answers i
