How Do You Pick More Huckleberries With A Huckleberry Picking Rake?
Huckleberry season has arrived and you are planning a hiking trip to your favorite huckleberry picking patch. Did you know – if the crop is good – you could pick up to ten times as many wild huckleberries in an hour, with an inexpensive tool known as a “huckleberry rake”? Pick a small manageable clump of berries to work with and slide the tines just under and up through the wild huckleberries. Use short, quick but firm strokes to pull the berries up and off the branches. Once you feel the pressure of the wild huckleberries against the tines, do a short gentle snap of your wrist up and out to pull the berries lose. As you practice and develop a rhythm, you may want to try holding the berry branches up while you rake the wild huckleberry lose from the bottom. Practice, practice, practice! You will be an expert ‘raker’ in no time and will have your igloo cooler filled faster than you can imagine!
