Airplanes are great subjects for photographers. On the ground or in the air, aircraft just look cool. Here are a few tips to help you get the best airplane pictures you can. Choose the camera you will use. Any camera will work in a pinch so keep a pocket digital with you all the time. For serious aircraft photography you will want a good digital single lens reflex with both wide angle and telephoto lenses. Manual exposure control is nearly essential for airplane photography. You want to have control over shutter speed and aperture. A continuous shooting mode (you hold the shutter button down to fire off several shots) will help you get more and better pictures. Finally, image stabilization can be very helpful for getting sharp images. Use a tripod or monopod whenever you can. It is hard to get sharp pictures of moving airplanes so use whatever you have available to stabilize the camera.
