How Do You Perform Minor Scales On Bass Guitar?

0

Crafting a minor scale on the bass guitar is one way to hear the “melancholy” sound of the minor key. It’s also a way for bass guitar players to get used to using minor progressions along with other instruments in a minor key composition. Choose your beginning note or key. For this scale, you can begin at any note on the bottom string, and that will be your key. For this example, start at the fifth fret of the bottom string; this is an A note. Play the fifth fret, A, then the seventh fret, B, then the eighth fret, C. Now prepare to play three more notes on the same frets of the A string (the next string directly above the bottom E string). Play the fifth fret, D, the seventh fret, E, and the eighth fret, F all on the A string. Move to the next string, the D string, and play the fifth fret, G, and the seventh fret, A. You will see how you arrived at the octave (A) by going in the same pattern up the E and A strings. You’ll also hear the minor tones of the scale.
