Assume first position by putting your heels together and pointing your toes outward. Your feet should form a wide V-shape. Take second position by sliding one foot outward until your feet are about a foot apart. Keep the toes pointed outward. Slide one foot in toward the other foot until the heel is touching the arch of the other foot. This T-shape, with one foot pointed forward and the other to the side, is third position.
