Hi, All AirTrain rides within the airport are free, so if you only use AirTrain to connect between the airline terminals, parking, hotel shuttles, and rental car facilities, there’s no fee to pay and no ticket is required. When leaving the airport, take AirTrain JFK to Howard Beach station to connect the “A” subway at Howard Beach Station. You can purchase that subway fair here http://www.mta.info/mta/fares/nyct.html (there are new rates as of the 2nd!) MetroCard Vending Machines and LIRR ticket machines accept cash (US currency only), credit cards, and debit cards. Oh and Credit and debit cards are not accepted at subway station booths, LIRR ticket booths, or at many MetroCard vendors. MetroCard Machines return up to $6 in change (coins).
