To maintain the integrity of your concrete slab, you should patch any cracks 1/4 on an inch or wider as soon as possible. The product you use to repair the cracks will depend on the size and extent of the cracks and damage. How to Patch a Concrete Slab Step 1 Remove all debris and dirt from the slab. Use a shop vacuum along the cracks to remove as much debris from inside the cracks as possible. Use a pressure washer to clean the entire area. Step 2 Use a pre-mixed mortar or sealant to fill cracks 1/4- to 1/2-inch wide. Pour the mortar or sealant directly into the crack, allowing the mortar to overflow. Step 3 Smooth the mortar along the crack with a trowel, pushing the mortar into the crack to fill completely. Use the trowel to smooth the surface of the repair and remove excess mortar.
