How Do You Paint Wood Panelling?
Wood panelling can definitely darken and date your home. If you want to change the look of panelling without an expensive reconstruction job follow these steps. Be sure you really want to paint your panelling. Once you start there is no turning back. With an electric hand sander and a light grade sand paper carefully sand the panelling until the smooth finish is sanded off. Wipe down the panelling with damp rags to remove the dust from sanding so that it won’t mix with your paint. Apply a coat or two of a good primer. If your panelling is dark colored you may need to use a heavy duty primer made to hide stains. Paint your panelling the color of your choice. Usually the lighter your color is the larger your room will look. A flat or eggshell finish paint will help your panelling to fade into the background. If desired add a chair rail for an added dimension and to further detract from the panelling effect.
