When using acrylic paint there are two popular techniques that can be used to paint realistic water: Opaque Technique and Wash Technique. To begin your painting, it is a good idea to sketch your scene onto the canvas using a drawing pencil or a fine brush. Before you start painting it is important to mix your colors on the palette. Opaque acrylic paint dries very quickly, which makes mixing colors on the canvas very difficult. You will need Thalo Blue for the base color, Titanium White, Cobalt blue, and Raw Umber. Use Titanium White to lighten the shade of your blue. Use Cobalt Blue to brighten up the paint color. Use Raw Umber to tone down the blue hue.
