How Do You Paint Over A White MDF Bookcase?
Your white MDF book shelf was great when you bought it–lightweight, easy to clean, and easy to assemble. But now that white, bland bookshelf is in serious need of an update. With some shellac, latex paint, a bevy of brushes, and some good sanding, you can have your bookshelf looking fresh, stylish, and like new. Use a screwdriver to disassemble the bookshelf as much as you can. This will make sanding, priming, and painting much simpler and thorough. Sand the cabinets down using a 220-grit sanding block or a sheet of 220-sandpaper, using a circular motion for the greatest effect. This gets rid of any old finishes or stuck-on dirt that could interfere with the application of paint. Wipe down the various pieces of the bookshelf with a clean tack cloth to remove any particles or dirt from the sanding. Apply a single coat of shellac, a primer/sealer, to the sanded bookshelf with a foam brush or roller in very even strokes across the surface. The shellac should be left to dry overnight for
