How Do You Paint Over A Vinyl Wall Covering?
Removing vinyl wall covering from a wall can be a real chore. The adhesive used to hang this type of vinyl is extremely strong, and often, thick traces of it are left behind on the underlying wall. Fortunately, you don’t have to remove vinyl wall covering to paint. If you know the proper preparation techniques and the appropriate types of coatings to cover it with, you can paint over vinyl wall covering without too much fuss. Clean the vinyl wall covering, using dish soap and a coarse brush. Rinse the vinyl thoroughly and allow the surface to dry. Cover flooring with heavy-duty fabric dropcloths and mask over any areas you don’t want painted, using blue painter’s tape. Apply a shellac-and-alcohol based primer, using an oil-base paintbrush. Use long, vertical strokes and smooth any runs as you apply. Allow the surface to dry for two hours. Clean the oil-based paintbrush, using ammonia or denatured alcohol. Apply latex paint in the same way you did the primer, except use a latex brush in
