How Do You Paint On Medium Density Fiberboard?
Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is a cost-effective material for creating tables, cabinets and other furniture. Painting medium-density fiberboard can be a challenge, though (especially on the machined edges), since without the right prep the fiberboard can soak up paint and release fibers that mess up your finish. Sand the face and the machined edges of your medium-density fiberboard. MDF accepts primer and paint very well on the face, but the cut edges of the board will soak up paint like a sponge unless you treat it beforehand. Remove the sanding debris with a damp cloth. Apply a coat of primer or glue size to the machined edges of your project. You can use a ready-made solvent-based high-fiber primer like Clawlock, or you can make your own glue size by mixing two parts water to one part yellow wood glue. Let the material dry, then sand it again with 220-grade paper. Remove the sanding debris. Apply another coat of primer or glue size to the edges. Let it dry. Sand the entire MDF su
