How Do You Paint Fake Tile On Wood Floors?

0

The look of porcelain or marble tile in a room can be charming but very expensive. An alternative to the cost of laying real tiles is to create faux tile floors over a wooden floor. It’s possible to achieve a tile look with paints available at local home improvement stores and a few artist brushes. Faux tiles can be “installed” in kitchens, family rooms, bedrooms, and virtually any room in the home. Choose the size of your faux tiles. Real tiles are usually 8-inch, 12-inch or 18-inch square. Test patterns, textures, and colors on scraps of 1/4-inch tempered hardboard cut to various tile sizes. Lay down “test tiles” and gauge the overall effect before committing to one size or design. Smooth out a hardwood floor if it has many joints. Real tiles don’t have joints like this. If you merely paint on top of a wood floor, the joints will “bleed through” the faux tile paint and mar the final effect. Either fill in all the joints with wood putty and sand the surface, or cover the entire floor
