How Do You Paint Baseboards Next To Carpeting?
Painting baseboard next to carpet requires care and preparation to keep paint off the carpet. This article describes a way to keep carpet away from baseboards while you are painting and while the paint dries. While the method uses ordinary wide masking tape, a particularly effective technique for applying the tape is described along with some additional pointers. Patch any nicks or nail depressions on the baseboard with an appropriate filler for wood (spackling, plastic wood, “water putty”, etc.). Sand patches when dry. Fill any cracks between the top of the baseboard and the wall with spackling, joint compound, or caulk. Smooth filled area with your finger (wet finger if you use caulk) and wipe off excess with a damp rag. When all patching and filling is dry, vacuum up any dust and particles and wipe any dust off the baseboard. Be sure the baseboard is clean and dry before proceeding further.
