You would like to restore your mirror boat to its former glory with a fresh coat of paint. To paint the mirror boat correctly, you need a few specialty tools and supplies. Make sure you have the right stuff before you begin. Here is how to paint your mirror boat so it’s just like new again. Remove the old paint by either sanding it off or using a heat gun. If using a heat gun, be sure to keep it about an inch away from the surface to protect the fiberglass. Decide if you will use epoxy. If the boat’s veneer is not peeling or you need to replace the fiberglass tape, it’s best to use an epoxy-based method. If you are not going to epoxy, simply repaint with a good-quality marine varnish and let it dry. Replace all of the loose and worn fiberglass tape. Verify that the wood is dry, and then place a coat of epoxy on it. Let that dry. Paint the mirror boat with good-quality marine paint, or varnish and again let it dry.
