How Do You Paint A Brick Fireplace For Updated Look?
A red brick fireplace is a sure sign that your house was built in the 60’s or 70’s. As solid as these houses are, there is no reason that you can’t easily update this look. Follow my tips and you can quickly bring your house into the 21st century. First, give the bricks a thorough scrubbing with the warm, soapy water. After scrubbing, you will want to refill your bucket with clear warm water. Continue rinsing the soap off of the bricks until the bricks look clean. Don’t be concerned with any soot marks or dirty grout. The scrubbing and rinsing is to get rid of any surface dirt and ashes. Allow 24 hours for thorough drying. Next, you will use the Kilz or other stain blocking paint. Open the can and stir and then begin painting from the top of the brick down to the bottom. Usually one coat will be all you need, unless your brick is very black from soot. If a second coat is needed, then you need to wait one hour before painting again.
