How Do You Pack Healthy School Lunches?
Healthy school lunches are what we all want for our children, but many kids would rather have a lunch box than a hot school lunch. Here’s how to avoid the junk food trap, and pack healthy school lunches your child will love. THE MAIN COURSE Choose a filling, nutritious main course for your child’s lunch box. You’ll need a thermos in order to serve warm, healthy selections without a heat source. Great items to serve from a thermos include leftover spaghetti and meatballs, homemade or canned soups that you’ve heated up, stews, or even warm cheese sauce for nachos. A leftover piece of chicken can be made into a yummy waldorf chicken salad. (see recipe below) Whatever you pack, make sure it’s a favorite, so it won’t come back home untouched. FRUITS AND VEGGIES Fruits and veggies should always be a part of healthy school lunches. That doesn’t mean they have to be boring, though. Make a fruit and yogurt parfait, and pack in a plastic container with a lid. Include a little granola on the side
