How Do You Pace Yourself For Marathon Training?
You’ve decided to run a marathon. Now what? While simple logic says you need to go out and run a lot of miles immediately, that is not the answer. You need to build your miles while building speed as well as core strength. But most important, you need to learn is about pacing. You don’t want to start out of the marathon gate running it like it is a 5K, nor do you want to run it like a stroll on the beach. Pacing helps you finish the marathon strong by controlling the amount of energy spent per mile. Set your goal for the marathon. Don’t try to go all Kenya on yourself, but set something a little challenging. For the purpose of this exercise, let’s say you want to run four hours flat. Divide four hours by 26.2 (the marathon’s distance) and you should get 9 minutes and 9 seconds. This is your target goal and the basis of your training times. Now lay out some courses.
