A small room, such as a bedroom or home office, has less space to devote to storage. Often small rooms have only a reach-in closet, resulting in stacks of wire mesh baskets and cluttered bookcases lined up against the walls. You can avoid this unappealing look by organizing the books, clothes and furnishings in the room, and by organizing the storage system. Empty the room. Measure the width, height and depth of the closet and make a note of those measurements. Purchase a closet organizing system appropriate to the size of the closet and the type of wardrobe you have. For example, if you wear suits to work, be sure your system includes rods for hanging suit coats and slacks, as well as a tie hanger and a shoe rack. If your wardrobe is primarily made up of jeans, shirts, sweaters and shoes, choose a system with more shelving. Use clear plastic containers for items such as underwear, socks and accessories and place these on shelves in your closet system. Mark the containers with their co
