When you need computer assistance, it’s often simpler for the technician to access your computer remotely. pcAnywhere is a popular program that allows for remote computer access. Yet some firewalls and anti-virus software see pcAnywhere as a security threat and may block the program. To prevent any problems, you may need to open port 5631 to allow pcAnywhere to access your computer. Log on to the computer as an administrator to change security settings. Go to “Start,” then “Control Panel” and finally “Windows Firewall.” If you are viewing the Control Panel in Category View, you will need to go to “Security Center,” then “Windows Firewall.” Click the “Exceptions” tab and choose the “Add Port” button.
