BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is standard boot firmware installed on all PC motherboards. It is the first code the computer runs on startup that tells the system important things like which hard drive to use, how much RAM there is, and overall what state the system is in. Basically, the BIOS prepares the system to load software like the operating system (Vista, XP, etc). Entering the BIOS depends more on your computer manufacturer than what version of Windows you have. Step 1 Restart the computer if it is on. If it is not running, press the power button to boot the system. Step 2 Tap the F2 key on startup if you have a Dell computer. Tap the F10 key if you have an HP.
