A garage door opener adds convenience to using your garage. Sometimes it is necessary to open a garage door without the remote. If the power goes out or you have misplaced the remote, you can open the door manually. As long as there is access to the inside of the garage, the door can be opened. Go inside the garage and use the wall button if you have power. If you have no power, the door will have to be disconnected from the door opener. Locate the emergency release rope that is connected to the motor carriage. The rope is where the opener arm connects to the door. Pull the emergency rope, which will release the door from the opener carriage. If there is no emergency release or if it is jammed, the opener arm will have to be disconnected. Locate the two bolts that connect the two pieces of the opener arm together. Using a wrench, remove the bolts and disconnect the arm. Grab the garage door by the handle and lift up the garage door.
