How Do You Obtain Military Separation Papers?
To obtain military separation records or any other military service record, is fairly easy for that military member or family. However, if you are searching for a separation record without the consent of the veteran, you will be subject to limited information due to the Privacy Act. The separation record that all military members receive when separated from the military is called the “DD214.” This DD214 is filed with the military branch’s administration department and then forwarded onto the Department of Veteran Affairs Services where it is passed onto the National Archives Center for safe keeping.
