How Do You Obtain A Golf Handicap?
A golf handicap is the universal method for amateur golfers to compare their ability with other golfers and with themselves. The handicap relies on a series of simple calculations based on the scores you have recently shot on a regulation 18-hole course. Play five 18-hole rounds of golf, keeping score according to United States Golf Association rules. Subtract the course rating (found on the scorecard) from your score for each round. Multiply the difference by 113 for each score. Divide the resulting numbers by the course slope rating (also found on the scorecard) for each round. Take the lowest of the five resulting numbers and multiply by 0.96, rounding to one decimal place. This number is your golf handicap.
