How Do You Nickel Plate Metal Without Electricity?
Metal plating, or the process of bonding a thin layer of metal material to the surface of another metal, is usually performed by running an electric current through a plating solution. This process can be a little daunting, and does have its own risks. However, you do not have to plate metal using electricity. Another method is electroless plating, which relies on a chemical reducing solution to bond the metals. You can use this method to plate nickel over another metal without needing electricity. Take the grease and oils off the metal you would like to be nickel-plated. Measure out 1 cup of lemon juice and add 1 tbsp. of salt to it. Let the salt dissolve, then briefly bathe the metal in the solution. Rinse the solution off the metal with water. Rub a small amount of baking soda onto the metal to neutralize any remaining acid, and rinse it again. Put on a pair of latex gloves to protect the cleaned metal from your skin oils. Polish the surface of the metal, using a polishing cloth, so
