The problem with your solution is that the computer that the printer is connected to must always be on to act as a print server to the rest of the network. I had a similar problem where I have a couple lap tops and 2 desktops all trying to print on one printer. network printer is different from normal printers,network printer need not to be installed in a system,it is installed on network,means a network printer can directly connect to a switch or to a hub,there will be an ip address for the netowrk printer,but a normal printer doesn’t have like that,it is just installing on a computer,so here if it is a usb printer then install it on any of the imac and when if you need to print from the second imac locate the printer on the printing wizard .
