How Do You Multiply In Excel Or Similar Spreadsheet Programs?
After learning how to add and subtract in spreadsheet programs like Excel or Calc, the next block of instruction to teach is multiplying data within spreadsheet cells. Here’s how. Run Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice Calc, or any spreadsheet program in Windows. Recognize that a cell represents a column position and a row position. In this example to demonstrate basic multiplication, A1 and A2 has two values: 100 and 5. Type in “=(A1*A2)” without the quotes. Note that the asterisks represent multiplication in programming and in many software applications. Hit “Enter”. The answer will be 500 and is shown below the first example. For entering any data or complete formula in the spreadsheet cells, hit Enter to insert data or get the results of the formula. In the previous example, we showed a multiplicand and a multiplier being multiplied respectively. The answer is called the product. Shown here are many multipliers. There are eight numbers to multiply in this example. The answer will be 46200
