How Do You Mount A Peltier Thermoelectric Module?
Peltier modules can be cracked if proper assembly procedures are not followed. This article explains how to mount a thermoelectric module to a heat sink and cold plate. Insure that the mounting surfaces are machined flat. An uneven surface will stress the brittle ceramic plates of the module when it is compressed. If there are any gaps in contact the thermal performance will suffer. Clean the mounting surfaces and both sides of the module with alcohol. Everything must be free of dirt, grease and other debris. Apply a very thin layer of thermal grease to each surface. Do not use too much, the objective is only to fill the microscopic low spots in the contact surfaces while allowing the high spots to make direct contact. Place the module onto the heat sink. While pressing firmly, move the module in small circles to squeeze out any excess thermal grease. Place the cold plate on top of the module and repeat the process of squeezing out excess grease. Assemble the machine screws to hold cla
