How Do You Mono Telemark Ski?

Use this exercise to practice steering both feet into telemark turns. Find a groomed slope to ski. Start in the telemark stance with your right knee dropped, making your left leg the lead leg. Remember to keep a tight stance – drop your back foot only about 1 1/2 feet from your front foot, and keep equal weight on both skis. Bend slightly forward with both knees and ankles. Freeze in this position. Steer your feet to the right, making a right telemark turn. Finish the right turn and get ready to switch directions. Remain in the same stance and steer both feet to the left, making a left turn. Repeat this until you feel comfortable, then drop your left knee, freeze in this position and try turning both directions again.
