The increased strength of the laser beam, while not illegal, will now span greater distances and be easier to see when used outdoors. Anyone with a basic understanding of how to use a soldering iron should be able to do the modification safely in less than 20 minutes. Spread some newspaper on a work surface. Open the battery compartment of the 5Mv green laser pointer and remove the batteries. Put the batteries and the battery compartment cap down on the newspaper. Hold the 5Mv green laser pointer in your left hand and clamp the jaws of a needle-nosed pliers around the front of the device.
