How Do You Microwave “Bake” A Potato?

When you are pressed for time and can’t wait the hour+ for your potatoes to bake, you can pop them in the microwave and have a baked potato in minutes! The water helps to keep the potato skin moist and supple so the potato does not shrivel up. They come out very tasty! Clean your potatoes well under running water. I like to use a little dishsoap and a scrubby. Sometimes I rub oil on the skin of the potato to keep them moist, also. Pierce each potato four or five times with a fork. Fill a mug almost completely full with water. Place your potatoes on the plate and put them in the microwave, along with the mug of water. Cook for 10 minutes on regular setting, give or take a few minutes to adjust to the strength of your individual oven. CAREFULLY remove from your microwave oven. The potato, plate, and mug will all be very hot! Let cool for a few minutes. Enjoy your fresh “baked” potato with all the fixin’s!

Does your oven take too long to bake potatoes? Try the microwave! Same results in a fraction of the time. Wash the potato. Do not dry it. Poke holes in the potato with a fork to prevent it from exploding. Wrap the wet potato in two layers of plastic wrap. Put the potato in the microwave for 5 to 8 minutes depending on the size. Denser types of potatoes will take a little longer as well. Let the potato stand 2-3 minutes before removing it from the plastic wrap.
