How do you measure liquid densities less than that of water on a homemade Hydrometer?

This is a science project I have to do. I already made my hydrometer, however, I need show how to measure liquid densities less than that of water on this homemade hydrometer. First you need to “calibrate” your hydrometer by floating it in some liquids of known density. Start with water which has a density of one gram per cubic centimeter or milliliter (same thing) and mark the side of your hydrometer with a l.00 Than take a liquid which has a density less than water such as rubbing alcohol, measure its volume in milliliters (cubic centimeters–again these are the same) in a graduated cylinder. Now you also need to know the weight of this alcohol in grams, so weigh an empty graduated cylinder on a chemical balance and record its weight. Then pour your alcohol sample into the cylinder while it is on the balance and record the additional weight above the weight of the empty cylinder. Now you know the weight (mass) and volume of the alcohol, and can find its density Density = weight or mas
