Vertical blinds are a quick and relatively simple solution when it comes to window coverings. Even with the addition of curtains, drapes or valances, blinds are often used underneath as an easy way to cover the windows at night. When planning for the installation of vertical blinds, it is crucial to take accurate measurements. The following steps cover both inside and outside mounts, depending on the type of blinds you plan to install. Use your measuring tape to determine the distance from the top of the window to the sill. Measure on the right side of the window, in the center, and on the left side. Record the largest measurement and round it to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Measure the width of the window inside the jamb at the top, center and bottom. Record the smallest of the three measurements to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Record your measurements with the width first and the height second, so that it is (W x H).
