The bore is the inside of the gun’s barrel, through which the bullet travels. You can measure the bore of your antique rifle by following these simple steps. Determine if the rifle bore has lands and grooves. If the bore is smooth, meaning it does not have lands and grooves, simply measure the diameter of the bore. Diameter is the measurement of a straight line that goes through the center of a circle and connects to two endpoints on the circle’s circumference. This measurement on your rifle is the size of your rifle’s bore. If the bore is grooved, measure the diameter of the bore between the lands, which are the raised portions of the grooves. The distance between the lands is the bore of your rifle.
