Purchasing new wool fabric can be quite expensive, but recycling those old wool knit sweaters can provide you with an affordable source of wool. Dig through your closets for torn, moth eaten or outgrown wool sweaters to make beautiful wool sofa cushions. Wool is a wonderful fabric to craft with, as its edges do not ravel or fray. Simple topstitching can be used to applique shapes easily, making the construction of appliqued wool sofa cushions a quick project. Step 1 Wash two adult wool sweaters of coordinating colors in hot water and dry in a hot dryer. The agitation of the cycles and the heat will shrink and felt the knit of the sweaters to create a solid fabric. Cut the sweaters apart at the seams and lay the pieces flat.
