Unless you purchase your lumber from a molding supplier who has already surfaced and straight-lined your lumber to the specifications required for your cabinets, it will need to be surfaced and straight-lined for use. Step 1 Put on your safety equipment. Make sure you have no loose clothing that may get caught in the power tools. Step 2 Start by running the lumber through the jointer to produce a straight edge. This is done by setting the jointer fence at 90 degrees to the table. Run the material through the jointer, keeping it flat against the fence.
