How Do You Make Wood Framed Windows?
Window frames can be big, bold and ornate, but they don’t have to be. You might want something simpler, say, for a high storm window in a utility room or shed, where no molding or sill is necessary. For a basic wood window frame, all you really need is some decent wood, a way to measure and cut it, and a general idea of the look you’re going for. Lay your level on the top span of the window, along the window casing, 1/4 inch back from the edge where it meets the glass of the window. Draw a line along the level, extending the line out an inch on either side. Do the same thing for the other three sides of the window, so you have a square of four intersecting lines around the window, 1/4 inch out from the glass all the way around. Measure the top horizontal line you’ve drawn, from where it intersects with the vertical lines on either side. Transfer that measurement to one edge of your 1×4, with the first mark a foot in from the end. Set the 1×4 on your miter saw, with the two marks from y
