You can turn an old window frame into a beautiful hanging mirror. No matter if your decor is vintage, country or shabby chic, this addition would be a perfect weekend project. Salvage a window from a salvage yard or use one that is being replaced with new windows. Wearing safety glasses and gloves, remove all existing panes and any fragments left in the grooves. Decide now if you will paint the frame. If you want to add a shelf to the frame, cut one to fit and attach it to the lower edge. Sand the entire unit thoroughly. After finishing with either stain and polyurethane, or two coats of paint, let it dry completely. Measure and cut the purchased mirror tiles to fit. Using a simple glass cutter, score along the marked line, using a straight edge. Place the mirror at the edge of the work surface and break. This should be a clean break, with no ragged edges.
