With rising energy costs, many people are turning to alternative energy sources to power or partially power their homes. Buying a wind generator is very expensive, and such a purchase would take many years to pay for itself. Building one, however, is not too difficult for anyone with intermediate construction skills. Mount the generator to one end of the top of the 2×4, and secure the housing over the generator. The housing, which can be as simple as a piece of PVC pipe, will protect the generator from the elements. Mount the tail to the opposite end of the top of the 2×4. The tail will insure that your turbine is always facing into the wind. Attach the blades to the hub. Blades should be evenly spaced and at a consistent angle to achieve maximum efficiency.
