Some people purchase urine test paper, also referred to as strips, to test the pH level of their urine—an important tool in testing for certain afflictions. Use a few household items to make your own at home. Shred or tear a head of red cabbage, putting the pieces into a blender. Add 2 cups of hot water. Purée the mixture of cabbage and water in the blender. Strain the cabbage/water solution with a mesh strainer, separating it from any leftover bits and pieces of cabbage, then pour the mixture into a bowl. This will serve as your pH indicator. Cut a coffee filter into 1/2-inch-wide strips. Soak the coffee strips in your cabbage/water solution for about three to four hours. These coffee strips will become your urine pH paper. Place the wet strips on a stain-proof or disposable tray, and allow then to dry completely. Leave a little space between the strips so they do not overlap. Make a ch
