Fear of the unknown is common with toddlers, especially since much of what they experience is new to them. Ease your child into new events like toilet training and wearing underwear by talking to them about the events before they happen. Wait until your child has used the toilet successfully. Don’t try to put underwear or training pants on your toddler until they have had some potty success either urinating or having bowel movements. Talk about underwear. Chances are when you get dressed you have a young child scrutinizing every piece of clothing you put on. Grab the teachable moment and tell your child about underwear.
