How Do You Make Sweet Potato Casserole For Thanksgiving & Christmas Dinner?
Sweet potato casserole is a great side dish for any meal but no Thanksgiving dinner would be complete without it. Boil 4 largish sweet potatoes. Once they have cooled, remove the jackets. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, add sweet potatoes and 1/4 cup of margarine or butter and mash well. Add 1 cup of sugar and 1-1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Add 1/4 cup of flour. Add 1/4 c. of orange juice. Mix well and put the mixture into a casserole baking dish. TOPPINGS Marshmallow Topping: My children like sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. You can add a layer of marshmallows (mini marshmallows are easier to work with) before putting the sweet potato casserole in the oven. Delicious walnut or pecan topping: Mix 1-1/2 c. brown sugar and 1/3 cup of flour well. Mix with 1/2 cup of melted margarine or butter. Once it’s mixed well, add 1 cup of walnuts or pecans. Spread mixture over the top of the sweet potato casserole and bake. Cook at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
