How Do You Make Sweet And Sour Red Cabbage?
One of my favorite side dishes is sweet and sour red cabbage. Its an excellent side dish for many meals. Below please find my recipe for making a very tasty sweet and sour red cabbage. Ingredients for Sweet and sour Red Cabbage: 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced 1/2- 1 apple, peeled, cored, chopped 4 cups of thinly sliced red cabbage 1/4 cup of a good quality apple cider vinegar 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon of celery seed ½ teaspoon of nutmeg 1/4 cup of diced bacon salt and pepper to taste Heat oil in a heavy large saucepan over med-high heat. Add red onion and apple and sauté until golden. This should take about 7 minutes. Add cabbage and vinegar, sugar and celery seed, nutmeg and cook until the cabbage is crisp-tender and liquid is reduced to a glaze. This should take about 10 minutes. Mix in bacon, season with salt and pepper and serve right away.
