How Do You Make Sugar Free Applesauce?
Good apples are delicious on their own and do not need added sweeteners. Making your own applesauce is so easy and the results are much more satisfying than what you will get from a jar. Select apples based on the type of sauce you would like. If you want a tart applesauce, use Granny Smith apples. If you want sweet apple sauce, use Fuji or Macoun. If you are not sure, your grocery store or farmer’s market should be able to suggest the best apples for apple sauce. Rinse and peel the apples. Remove the core and slice into one inch pieces. If you want a chunkier sauce, keep some of the pieces larger than the others. Place the apples in a small pot or saucepan and add about two inches of water to the pot. If you are using the cinammon or vanilla bean, add it to the pot. Turn the heat on to high until the water begins to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally. You are finished once the apples begin to break up and reach the desired consistency.
