How Do You Make Sugar Cookies Without Baking Soda?
There are several good recipes out there for making sugar cookies without baking soda. One of the easiest recipes for sugar cookies is Scotch Shortbread. It is made with only three ingredients: butter, flour and sugar. The second recipe for rolled sugar cookies contains baking powder, but neither recipe contains baking soda. Mix 3/4 cup of butter and 1/4 cup of sugar thoroughly. Work the 2 cups of flour in gradually by hand to make dough. Roll out dough to 1/3 to 1/2-inch thick. Cut the dough into shapes with cookie cutters and place on the cookies on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven. Stir together the flour, baking powder and 1/4 tsp. salt. Beat the butter and shortening for 30 seconds. Then add the sugar and beat until fluffy. Add the egg, milk and vanilla and beat well.
