How Do You Make Sourdough Starter From Grapes?
Making sourdough starter takes a little patience, but once it’s active, the starter can live on for years with proper care and storage. This starter is made with crushed red grapes, flour, and water. Make it and fill your kitchen often with the aroma of freshly baked sourdough bread. Sourdough starter uses natural sugars and “wild” yeast in the air to create its unique flavor and leavening quality. Thoroughly clean all bowls, utensils, jars, and lids to be used in making this starter. (See Tip below.) Crush 2 cups of red grapes in bowl and combine with 2 cups bread flour and 2 cups warm water. Place the mixture in a warm environment, about 80 degrees, for several hours or overnight. A good place is inside an oven with the oven light turned on.
